Swiss Federal Council opens consultation on stablecoins and cryptocurrencies

On 22 October 2025, the Swiss Federal Council opened a consultation on amendments to the Financial Institutions Act (FINIG). The amendments aim to implement international standards in the areas of stablecoins and cryptocurrencies.
Switzerland is one of the leading locations in the areas of fintech and blockchain. In order to further improve the attractiveness of the regulatory framework, strengthen customer protection and remain internationally competitive, the new draft proposes to expand the financial regulation system with two new licence categories.
The consultation period runs until 6 February 2026.
